Two years ago, we overseeded our alfalfa fields with orchardgrass, to keep up with the growing demand among the Walla Walla Valley's horse enthusiasts for premium mixed hay. We are starting our third year on our no-spray fields, for those who may be interested in feeding pesticide/herbicide free hay. Our goal is to provide you with exactly the quality of hay you expected to get when you purchased it, and nothing less.
We sell 2-tie, twine, 16x18 small bales. We have found that the majority of our customers prefer lighter, less cumbersome bales, so we custom-size our own hay to meet this market. A normal 2-tie bale of alfalfa hay will measure 46 to 48 inches in length, and will weigh between 90 and 140 pounds. (Most producers in the Valley aim for 100-120 pounds.) We do not cut down on weight simply by making a loose, airy bale that will flop apart the minute you pick it up. Instead, we shorten our bales so they measure 36 to 41 inches in length, which allows us to keep a tight, uniform bale that weighs between 60 and 85 pounds.
Our hay is sold directly from the stack (FOB). Local delivery often can be arranged, and loading is always available, assuming our ranch hand (meaning myself), hasn't recently taken a header off the horse, crashed the dirt-bike, flipped the four-wheeler, fallen asleep on the tractor, hit a powerpole, and created a city-wide blackout, or been trompled over by an angry mother cow... (and Daddy, if you're reading this, that blackout really wasn't me... honest!)
We also custom harvest and market other local farmer's hay, and depending on availability, we may be able to provide straight alfalfa, oat or oat mix, grass, or straw.
We are currently sold out of hay for 2010, thanks to the best bunch of customers that we are honored to supply. We will keep you up to date when our 2011 harvest commences. |
